AMF; Northumbria University – Special Guest Panel Event

We are delighted to invite you to the showcase launch event of our new partnership with Newcastle Business School (Northumbria University) and the benefit it can bring to you, our members, and the wider business community. The Open North Foundation, a partner of both the AMF and NBS, will also be promoting this event and addressing the gathering.

We have a range of experts and great speakers to share their thoughts with you on various aspects of the UK and Global economy which will be relevant to how to tackle our day to day business challenges. There will be ample time for Q & A.

This early evening event will begin with a light buffet, and drinks reception, then move on to the guided panel event. AMF Chair, Richard Swart will direct questions and guide the panel to make the most of the expertise on offer.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson – Baroness Tanni competed in five Paralympic Games, winning 11 Gold Medals and is acknowledged as one of the most gifted and trail-blazing sportswomen for her dedication to bringing disability sport to a wider audience.

In addition to her outstanding Paralympic achievements, she won the London Wheelchair Marathon a total of six times.

Baroness Tanni has gone on to play a prominent role in public life and is a vocal campaigner for disability rights. She is currently Chair of UK Active, a Non-Executive Director of the BBC, Chancellor of Northumbria University, sits on the board of Transport for London, and is a Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Sportsaid Foundation and the British Institute of Human Rights.

Made a ‘Dame’ in 2005, she was elevated to the House of Lords in 2010 with a focus on sport, disability, health and welfare and has made significant contributions to debates on welfare reform, assisted dying and sports governance. In 2017 she authored the Duty of Care in Sport Report for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

David Henig – David Henig is Director of the UK Trade Policy Project at the European Centre for International Political Economy. A leading expert on the development of UK Trade Policy post Brexit, in 2017 he co-founded the UK Trade Forum, which brings together UK trade policy experts to debate and analyse these issues.

Simon Nixon – Simon Nixon joined The Times as chief leader writer in 2018 and has been writing a weekly column for the business section on international economic affairs since 2015. He was previously chief European commentator at The Wall Street Journal, European editor of the WSJ’s Heard on the Street column and executive editor of Reuters’ Breaking views.

Chris McDonald – Chris McDonald is the Chief Executive Officer of the Materials Processing Institute. The Institute carries out industrial research and innovation in advanced materials, industrial decarbonisation and the circular economy and has been supporting the materials, processing and energy sectors for over 75 years. Chris led the divestment and return to independent, not-for-profit ownership of the Institute in 2014. Chris is also an Open North Foundation Ambassador. Chris has also recently been announced as the Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Stockton North.
