Date: Thursday 29 November 2018
Time: 12.00-2.00pm
Location: Cathedral Suite, Durham County Cricket Club, Emirates Riverside, Chester-le-Street, DH3 3QR
Held with our strategic marketing partner, Horizon Works, this Marketing Club will feature guest speakers Graeme Parkins, Managing Director of Dyer Engineering and Stephen Irish, Managing Director of Hyperdrive Innovation.
Graeme Parkins, Managing Director of Dyer Engineering
Graeme caught the engineering “bug” whilst attending the George Stephenson Memorial School and began working life as an Apprentice with Rolls Royce. Going on to build a successful career in the electronics and steel fabrication industries, he achieved his first senior management position aged 25 and has gone on to lead businesses at a senior level for 25 years.
Following an MBO in 2013, Graeme now co-owns Dyer Engineering, a successful, precision machining and fabrication business, in County Durham which has grown 50% in the past 12 months and employs over 200 people.
With ambitious plans to continue the growth journey for Dyer Engineering, this year, the business has embarked on a refocussing of its marketing strategy and a re-boot of its branding.
With a presentation titled “Hedgehogs in a Rowing Boat” Graeme will share his experiences of that journey.
Stephen Irish, Managing Director of Hyperdrive Innovation
Stephen has substantial experience in technology development and product delivery having worked in tier one automotive supply chain companies, OEMs such as Jaguar Land Rover and engineering consultancies. He wrote his degree thesis on electric and hybrid vehicle technology almost 20 years ago and is a founding director of Hyperdrive Innovation.
Establishing Hyperdrive in 2012 with a small team of 6, Stephen has taken the business from a start up to a scale up as the first company in the world to secure the supply of Nissan LEAF lithium-ion technology for its own commercial products. Now developing innovative battery technologies to power electric vehicles, homes and businesses, Hyperdrive brings to the market clean energy alternatives to fossil fuels, working with national and international brands to electrify their fleets for vehicle use in city centres, construction sites and transport hubs. With dedicated manufacturing facilities in Sunderland and Asia, Stephen tells the story of his product roadmap, from initial design concepts right through to volume production, all in efforts to cater to the world’s demand for cleaner air.
