MHA TAIT WALKER WELCOMES NEW RECRUITS TO ITS TEESSIDE OFFICE

AMF member, MHA Tait Walker has welcomed four new recruits to its Stockton-on-Tees office as part of its continued investment into the region.

The firm, which has been working with clients across Teesside for more than half a century, recently moved to more than 6,500 sq. ft of space on Massey Road, Stockton-on-Tees.

The new recruits are joining the team in a mix of roles from AAT Apprentice to Business Services Executive, where they will be mentored and supported throughout their training contract and given the experience of working within different teams across the practice, including Business Services and Taxation.

Leah Walmsley, 19, from Stockton, joins the firm as an AAT Apprentice. Prior to the apprenticeship, she studied A Levels at Egglescliffe Sixth Form where she achieved 3 As in Maths, Geography and Physical Education.

Leah’s role will see her undertaking tasks including bookkeeping and accounts preparation. She is currently working towards her Level 3 AAT.

Leah said: “Through my apprenticeship I hope to gain broader knowledge of accountancy and the business world. I also hope to improve my communication skills, problem-solving and leadership skills too.

“This will help me to gain more confidence in my day-to-day jobs. Additionally, passing my exams and becoming AAT qualified is something I can’t wait to achieve, opening many more gateways to my future in Business Services.”

West Miller, 20, also joins MHA Tait Walker in Teesside. West opted to leave school and take an AAT apprenticeship route. He has joined the firm from Westwaters Chartered Certified Accountants in Sunderland.

He said: “It is a privilege to join MHA Tait Walker. When the offer came up following a meeting with Andrew Moorby and Chris Potter, I knew this was the right place to continue my journey to become a Chartered Accountant. Everyone has made me feel part of the team and it’s great to have established such great relationships in such a short space of time.

“I am at the last hurdle for AAT now and with Tait Walker’s help I hope to go on to become Chartered. I am also looking to broaden my knowledge of accounts and audit and move up within internal ranks of the firm.”

The recruitment news comes after it was announced that 100 new apprenticeships have been created across the Tees Valley thanks to a £1m Emergency Apprenticeship Fund Scheme, launched by the Tees Valley mayor.

The fund was opened in June to ensure that young people between 16 and 20 were not left behind as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

A recent survey carried out for the Combined Authority also revealed that 69% of responding businesses said that they had furloughed apprentices, with 35% adding they could no longer commit to employing one.

Andrew Moorby, Managing Partner of MHA Tait Walker, said: “It’s fantastic news to welcome these new recruits to the MHA Tait Walker team. As a firm we are investing heavily to attract new talent and provide the bespoke training necessary if we are to provide the specialist accounting advice needed by emerging new industries such as green energy, which will be significantly important to the region in the future.

“We are passionate about the talent here in our region and each year we recruit team members at every stage in their career. It’s more important than ever that we enhance their experience as well as provide our existing staff somewhere to continue to grow within the business.”
