Alison Maynard

AMF Board Member - Principal - South Tyneside Professional and Vocational College

Experienced educationalist Alison has been pivotal in the expansion and refinement of the vocational curriculum in the three years since joining South Tyneside College.

As the Principal of the Professional and Vocational College, her belief that the talents of those who do not achieve academically can find expression through other learning is stronger than ever. It has led her to greatly advance vocational curriculum opportunities, including improving access to courses and the gaining of employability skills for NEETs and the unemployed.

Arguably her most high profile success has been the establishment of Career College North East, which gives training to 14 to 19-year olds in advanced manufacturing, engineering and computer science. Launched in January 2015, its first tranche of students started their learning journey in September last year.

However, she is proud of the overall progressive direction in which she has taken the college’s entire range of vocational qualifications, ensuring it has a highly modern format and outlook and targets promoting courses that lead
students into employment.
